History of Mooresville, by Julie Kyle Lee

Did you know that Mooresville, Indiana has a museum?  It should be no surprise.  Our hometown has been making history since before its founding in 1824.

The Academy of Hoosier Heritage
(commonly called the Academy School),
serves as Mooresville's local history museum and
sits adjacent to Newby Memorial Elementary School
on North Monroe Street in Mooresville, Indiana

The Academy School was built during 1860-1861.  Visit the museum to discover its exciting history, as well as to learn more about Mooresville's local lore. Details are available on the Museum's website.

In 2001, Julie Kyle-Lee, manager of the Academy of Hoosier Heritage, wrote a brief history of Mooresville for the Morgan County History & Genealogy Association. This interesting, informative article is now available through our website.

Museums are totally cool.  There are amazing historical artifacts that reveal how our ancestors lived way back in the day.  It's well worth your time to drop by.  While you're at it, stop by my Library's Indiana Room.  We're just down the street (about a quarter mile south of the Academy museum).  We've got our share of local history, too.

My Library has a playlist of its local history videos on our YouTube channel.  Informative and interesting--well, hopefully.
